On July 15, 2021 the IRS began issuing advance Child Tax Credit payments to eligible families using the Child Tax Credit program, as part of the American Rescue Plan that was signed into law March 11, 2021.
The Child Tax Credit increases from $2,000 to $3,600 for each qualifying child under 6 and up to $3,000 for each qualifying child age 6-17.
Half of the total Child Tax Credit for 2022 (tax filing year 2021) will be issued in advance monthly payments starting July 15. Eligible families may receive advance payments of up to $300 per month for each child under 6 and up to $250 per month for each child age 6-17.

Use the IRS Child Tax Credit Update Portal if you need to verify eligibility, opt-out of monthly payments, update direct deposit information, or switch from mailed payments to direct deposit.
